The Surefire Access To A Job In Nigeria

You can now determine how quickly you get your dream job in Nigeria. Let me assure you one thing… Your grade point has little to do with how soon you get a job.

It is now about how smart you are not how brilliant. I will explain.

I have discovered through an intensive research that the most qualified people are not the ones who get the job. As a matter of fact, “over-proving” your competence could be a strong reason why you won’t get the job. Many employers have now realized that loyal, open-to-learn employees are far more valuable to the company than just competent employees.

Most employers are out to get someone who would value the job they are offering enough to stay loyal, hardworking and satisfied.

They want someone who has gone the extra mile to get the job. Not someone who knew he got the job because he had a first class or 2.1.

I am not saying that people with excellent grades are out of the range. All I’m saying is that there is more to it now than just getting a high grade. Getting a good grade is no doubt a pre-requisite. But without this factor that guarantees you access to a good job, you may have to play around the labor market for a while.

Another wrong notion is that you will get a job by submitting your CVs online. Yes. This is a requirement if you are really serious about getting a job. But if this is all you bank on getting your dream job, you have only 1% chance of success.

Take a look at this. The database you are submitting your CV to has over 100,000 equally qualified applicants. Now, except you have something else like ‘divine intervention’ or ‘luck’ working for you, what chance do you have?

A set of people also rely on their brother, uncle or childhood friend to get help them secure a job in their company, bank or government establishment. But if you want to be sincere, 1 out every 4 applicant has relates to someone working in a reputable firm but that hasn’t helped them yet.

Neither should you depend on your prowess in answering GMAT questions. There are applicants who can give you the right answers to 100 job questions at a stretch without batting the eye. But that hasn’t gotten them a job yet.

What then is the most guaranteed and fastest way to get that job you desire?

ATTITUDE

That is it. Attitude is one thing that 80% of applicants in Nigeria lack.

Many are qualified… But lack attitude.

Many prepared and wrote tests… But lack attitude.

Many have good connections… But lack the job-attracting attitude.

Many have great resumes filed up in databases owned by Shell, Chevron, and most Nigerian banks…but attitude is still missing.

Yet this is one factor that would make any employer create space for you in the company.

Yes, you may be wondering… what is it about attitude?

I’ll tell you in a moment.

This article is not to amuse you but to help you take vital job-searching steps. Therefore, I would attempt to give you easy-to-implement suggestions that would bring to fore an attitude that would get you a job in the next six months at most. Luckily, you may even see amazing results of attitude in the next 7 days of applying them.

1. Always let a customized cover letter follow your resume each time you are applying for a job whether they request for it or not. Don’t waste your application by getting deliberately lost in the crowd of 100,000 equally qualified applicants. The only way you won’t get competition is when you are applying for the post of a janitor in a local restaurant.

2. If you require applying by sending your resume via email, adjust your resume to match the job you are applying for. If it’s for a banking position project any accounting experience beyond others. If you don’t have such an experience, site a relevant hobby such as monopoly or Cash flow. It indicates that if employed you would be highly productive because you like the job.

3. Except they warn against it, submit multiple entries for the same job position. Don’t just go ahead to submit the same resume. You can get six different versions of your resume and submit them for the same job. You have about 7 –10 seconds to impress the screener. For the one who has only one application, the chance is lost forever. This give you five times more chances compared to your competitor. Some have confirmed this as a way to get short-listed for an interview.

4. Re-apply to the place you were rejected. A lot of applicants let ego jeopardize of their chance of getting a good job. The criteria for rejecting you this week might have been cancelled next week. If you really love to work in that company you applied to, find a way to re-apply and you may now be taken seriously especially when you can prove your ability to do the job well.

These attitude-driven steps will enhance your job-searching efforts.

Believe me.

Securing top jobs in Nigeria

Are you wondering what step to take that would guarantee you a job in Nigeria as soon as possible?

Or are you in hunt of that top job in Nigeria that puts you in the class of the elites of the society without many years of experience?

Then you would need to consider the following useful suggestions.

Getting jobs in Nigeria is not easy unless you belong to the 0.001% class that have their ‘brothers’, ‘anties’ and ‘uncles’ in top positions in the corporate world.

What then is the way out?

Simple.

Seek to do what others are not doing.

In this article, I am not giving you an ultimate formula that would get you a 6-digit salary job tomorrow morning. You will need God to achieve that.

But acting diligently on the following tips and suggestions will increase your chances of getting a good job in Nigeria… sooner than you expect.

Now, let’s go straight to the suggestions.

1. Securing A Job In Nigeria Requires Registering with popular ‘Job in Nigeria’ forums.

There are millions of unemployed graduates competing for the limited jobs in Nigeria. But only about 24,000 of them are part of All jobs Nigeria forum… which I consider as one of the most popular forums around.

If you are part of any forum for job seekers, then you are on to a great start. But if you haven’t joined any yet, I would advise you to join one today. It will increase your chances several times over.

One more thing… Be sure to be an active participant. Don’t just watch things happen. Ask questions on anything you don’t understand. Many ask good questions on interview tips, test questions, recruitment requirements and so on.

There are thousands of informed youths out there who can give stellar answers to your questions.

What you don’t know may be killing you… think about that.

2. Securing A Job In Nigeria Requires Prompt Reply To Job Adverts

Securing good jobs in Nigeria requires some smartness.

Have you ever wondered why some third class graduates secure great jobs in Nigeria faster than 2.1 graduates? Most times it’s about the smartness.

Don’t throw in your application 10 days after an advertisement was made… if you wish to secure a top job in Nigeria. They might be using first- come- first- serve criteria.

Remember that those who review the applications are human beings like you and I. They are reluctant to go through 100,000 job applications before recruiting.

So the moment they get the number of applicants who ‘meet’ their employment requirement, they stop. And you can guess what happens to other applications, can’t you?

Therefore, the earlier you submit your application the better for you. Like I said before, getting a good job in Nigeria requires smartness.

3. Securing A Job In Nigeria Requires Submitting CVs By Hand Regularly.

Yes. You might have submitted your CVs online. But I must tell you from experience that submitting your CVs by hand to your choice companies is a secret that works like magic. Yet many haven’t harnessed it.

Not all companies want to advertise online before recruiting graduates for jobs in Nigeria. They might decide to work with all CVs submitted to their office. Too bad if they don’t find your CV in their files.

Therefore note down a list of the companies you would like to work for and begin to submit your CVs to their Human Resources departments…possibly from tomorrow morning.

4. Securing A Job In Nigeria Requires Connecting Regularly With Friends and Family members that work in your dream companies.

Many have gotten their jobs in Nigeria this way. Don’t ever assume that they know you are searching for a job and would call you when there is an opening.

Of course they would want to.

But you know… most people you see around have a lot on their mind. They are occupied with the thoughts of their personal challenges, office-work, children’s health, social engagements and so on. This makes it easy for them to forget useful job information meant for you.

But if you frequently ask simple questions like, “ When next is your company recruiting?” or “Anything yet?” you may just get an answer like ‘Yes! I was going to tell you to submit an application tomorrow morning at… for the post of….’ That is the way it works.

Don’t get discouraged if you get negative answers… because nine of every ten of such questions will get a ‘No’ response. But do you mind, when you know that your tenth answer may secure you a job in Shell? Hell, NO.

5. Securing A Job In Nigeria Requires Customizing Your CV

Always adjust your CV to be well matched with the position you are applying for. Most people are screened out based on misrepresentations displayed in their CVs.

Why should you apply for an engineering job, portraying how good your teaching skills are? Or how would your music certificate increase your chances for an accounting job application?

Don’t put your employer off with ‘junks’ on your CV. You can call this a million-dollar advice.

However, learn to ‘overplay’ your abilities in a pleasant way compatible with the type of job you are applying for. It won’t do anyone harm. On the contrary it will increase your chances of getting the job in Nigeria.

6. Securing A Job In Nigeria May Require Picking A ‘Temporary Lower’ Job.

This might sound ridiculous but please don’t be hard on me if you don’t like it.

What I suggest here is to accept an available lower job with prospects. Then work your way to the top from the inside. Those who are already working are 7 times more likely to secure good jobs in Nigeria than those who are not. This is true for two reasons.

One, they easily build trust and competency… making it easy to convince their employer to eventually consider them for vacant top positions.

Two, they build up enough experience to apply for jobs in more lucrative companies.

If you haven’t started doing any of the above, you are limiting yourself in securing one of the top jobs in Nigeria.

The only way to avoid failure is to pursue success. Act on these suggestions outlined above and you are sure to get that much desired job sooner than you expect.

Watch out for more vital tips tomorrow.
